Having chosen scenario 1, “Economy,” I decided to answer these two questions:
What are the 21st-century social justice issues presented in the scenario?
How can they be addressed from a STEAM perspective?In the case of the main 21st-century social justice issues, perhaps we could narrow it down to a single problem: the unequal distribution of our world’s wealth. Not all global citizens have equal access to the wealth the planet offers us, nor is its distribution fair. These problems could be addressed from different areas with different types of activities:
Science: Using maps showing populations or countries of the world to compare the unequal distribution of wealth.
Technology: Using computer applications to collect data on wealth distribution.
Engineering: Creating tools that allow for a fair distribution of what is produced by the planet’s citizens.
Arts: Creating presentations on cardboard to present to other members of the educational community.
Mathematics: creating different types of graphs that compare wealth situations.
