Participating in this module reshaped my understanding of STEAM as a powerful framework for civic engagement, especially when centered on data. I initially viewed data science for elementary education as too abstract and too technical, but the activities demonstrated how real-world data can help students explore social and environmental issues that matter to their communities. I found it particularly interesting how data analysis encouraged critical thinking, evidence-based discussion, and collaboration. The hands-on STEAM tasks raised new questions for me about balancing technical skills with meaningful civic contexts. While integrating data-centered STEAM pedagogy is exciting, challenges remain, such as ensuring age-appropriate data literacy and providing sufficient time and resources in the classroom.
